Korea Talks Reaffirmed

n TOKYO () -- North Korea said Friday it would resume high-level talks with the United States in Geneva on Aug. 5.


"A working-level contact took place in New York on July 21 at which the sides agreed to resume the talks in Geneva on August 5," a spokesman for the North Korean Foreign Ministry said in a statement carried by the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), monitored in Tokyo.


In Seoul on Thursday, U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Robert Gallucci and South Korean Foreign Minister Han Sung-joo agreed their countries should "actively assist" Pyongyang to upgrade its nuclear reactor if it gave up any nuclear arms ambitions.
