Japan Visit Postponed

MOSCOW () -- Foreign Minister Andrei Kozyrev has postponed indefinitely a visit to Japan scheduled for later this month, a ministry official said Tuesday.

Interfax quoted Nikolai Solovyov, head of the ministry's far eastern department, as saying that the decision had nothing to do with the month-old conflict in Chechnya or any problem in bilateral relations.

"The minister's tight schedule does not allow him to visit Tokyo in January," Solovyov said.

He said Russian and Japanese experts would work out a new date for the visit and an agenda.
