Jansen Hangs up Skates

MILWAUKEE, Wisconsin () -- Speed skater Dan Jansen, who ended 10 years of Olympic frustration by winning a gold medal at the Lillehammer Games in February, has announced his retirement.


Speaking from his home in Milwaukee on Wednesday, Jansen, 29, said he hopes to spend more time with his family and work in broadcasting.


Jansen won 20 world championship medals, was the world sprint champion in 1988 and 1994 and set the world record in the 500 meters.
