JAMMU, India () -- A powerful bomb exploded inside a bus carrying schoolchildren in Jammu-Kashmir state Thursday, killing five students and injuring 28, police said.
No one immediately claimed responsibility. Islamic militants fighting for independence in Kashmir have been targeting Hindu-dominated Jammu city for the last year, leaving at least 9,500 people dead.
Police said a time bomb had been planted inside the bus and that the blast occurred during the morning rush hour on the outskirts of Jammu, the winter capital of Jammu-Kashmir state.
