ANAHEIM, California -- Ken Griffey Junior hit his 31st home run of the season to break Babe Ruth's major-league record for homers before July as the Seattle Mariners pounded the California Angels 12-3. Griffey's 404-foot home run to right field broke the record of 30 homers before July, established by Ruth in 1928 and again in 1930. Griffey, whose last 11 homers have travelled more than 400 feet, finished 2-for-5 with three RBI and scored three runs in Wednesday's game.
