English Accuse Welsh

England's rugby officials have accused Welsh forwards of wearing illegal studs and padding during Saturday's Five Nations defeat at Twickenham.

England Rugby Union technical director Don Rutherford said Monday: "I was informed by players that a player was wearing extra-length studs. I told the match officials that they must inspect the studs just before the players step on the pitch but after the game I received complaints. We will mention the problem to the International Board. One prop on the pitch wore padding that went beyond the requirements and it was not picked up. These are outside the laws."

Wales won the Five Nations trophy despite Saturday losing 15-8 to England.
