'Enemy' Rejects Trade

SEOUL () -- North Korea rejected South Korea's offer for direct trade and investment Thursday, saying it cannot do business with its capitalist enemy.


The statement, carried by the Korean Central News Agency, was the Communist North's first response to South Korean President Kim Young-sam's decision to lift a half-century ban on direct investment and trade with the North in a dramatic shift in policy. However the South Korean national news agency Yonhap quoted an unnamed government official as saying: "It's too early to consider the KCNA report an outright rejection."
