Duran Loses Fight

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- American Vinny Pazienza used youth, movement and hand speed to take a unanimous decision over aging legend Roberto Duran of Panama in a bloody, 12-round super middleweight bout. Pazienza won Saturday by scores of 117-112 on two of the three judges' cards and by a score of 117-113 on the other judge's card. Pazienza, a former world champion in two weight divisions now is in position to challenge for a super middleweight title. Duran, 43, who has won world titles in four weight divisions since turning professional in 1967, had his best rounds early. A right to the head seemingly downed Pazienza in the second round, but referee Joe Cortez ruled it a slip.
