Comeback By Agassi Earns Win

STOCKHOLM -- Andre Agassi, blanked in the first set and down 2-4, 15-40 in the second, produced a great comeback to beat Swede Nicklas Kulti in second-round action at the Stockholm Open.

The U.S. Open champion, now eighth on the ATP rankings after winning last week's tournament in Vienna, won 0-6, 7-5, 6-3 Wednesday, avenging a loss to Kulti in his opening match here four years ago.

Kulti, a Stockholm native who received a wild card from the organizers, played dream tennis to shut out Agassi in the first set.

"I wasn't playing badly or stupid," Agassi said. "He just was going for winners and played some of the best tennis of his life."

Michael Chang, the No. 7 seed, was the highest seed to fall, losing in straight sets 6-4, 6-3 to Swede Magnus Larsson.

World No. 1 Pete Sampras, playing his first ATP tournament since early September, struggled early before beating Czech qualifier Daniel Vacek in another second-round match, 7-6 (8-6), 6-1.

Also advancing to the third round were No. 2 seed Goran Ivanisevic and No. 3 Michael Stich.
