MELBOURNE, Australia () -- Carlton won a record 16th Australian Football League title Saturday when it crushed Geelong by 61 points in the grand final.
Carlton scored a 21.15 (141) to 11.14 (80) victory over a disappointing Geelong in front of a near-capacity crowd of 93,670 at the rainswept Melbourne Cricket Ground.
It was Carlton's first premiership since 1987 and completed a memorable season during which the Melbourne side lost only two matches.
Geelong, chasing their first premiership since 1963, suffered more misery by losing their second successive grand final and their fourth in the past seven years.
