Baseball Deadline Near

WASHINGTON () -- Major league baseball players and owners, under threat of a midnight Thursday deadline set by the owners, resumed talks in a bid to settle the longest stoppage in U.S. sports history.


An added twist to the talks Tuesday was a key Republican Senator's warning to the owners not to try to break the players' union.


"If I get the impression that the owners are going to break the players' union, then I'm not going to sit idly by and let that go," Senator Orrin Hatch told ESPN, the sports television network.
