Atherton Will Stay

MANCHESTER, England () -- England cricket captain Mike Atherton told a specially convened news conference Friday he will not resign, but deeply regretted the incident which created a ball tampering furor this week.


Atherton was under pressure from the British media to quit his job after television cameras captured him taking dirt from his pocket last Saturday during England's 356-run first Test loss to South Africa and apparently wiping it on the ball.
