Almaty Curbs Spending

ALMATY -- Kazakhstan's parliament has passed a 1994 budget with tight spending limits aimed at bringing inflation under control, parliamentary officials said Friday.

Some deputies walked out of Thursday's parliament session which approved the deflationary package restricting the deficit to 20.7 billion tenge ($492 million), an expected 4.6 percent of gross domestic product. The projected deficit is in line with conditions set by the International Monetary Fund.
