Storchak Faces Court on Embezzlement Charges

A criminal case against Deputy Finance Minister Sergei Storchak, who is under investigation on suspicion of large-scale embezzlement, may be sent to court within 10 days, Vedomosti reported Monday.

The Investigative Committee has sent Storchak’s case to the Prosecutor General’s Office, which has to decide within 10 days whether the case should go to court or be returned to investigators for further examination, Storchak’s lawyer, Andrei Romashov, told Vedomosti.

Storchak was arrested on embezzlement charges in November 2007 and freed last fall pending trial.
