It might well seem that a new Japanese restaurant or at least a sushi bar opens every day somewhere around town. But it's not every day that a Japanese restaurant opens serving fugu, as Misato does. The notorious dish is prepared from the flesh of the deadly pufferfish, which is famous for its ability to kill the diner if improperly prepared. For those who do not yet feel drawn to this culinary equivalent of extreme sports, the three-level restaurant serves a more staid selection of your usual Japanese fare.

Steak lovers have one more venue to satisfy their cravings, as the eighth Goodman steakhouse has opened on Trubnaya Ploshchad. The new restaurant, which has seating for 170 customers, follows the same formula found in the other steakhouses in the chain, with the same menu and similar design. But the chain's eighth incarnation also has a glass pyramid skylight in the center of the main hall and a seating area with coffee tables and sofas for relaxing while waiting for a table to free up.

Heralding the imminent arrival of summer, Scandinavia has opened its summer patio. Given its popularity with expats over the years you might think this was the only alfresco eatery in town.

With the change in seasons come changes in menus. The Hotel Baltschug Kempinski has kicked off asparagus season with a special white asparagus menu. Forming the base of the menu is fresh white asparagus with hollandaise sauce and butter (200 grams -- 900 rubles, 400 grams -- 1,500 rubles).
Nedalny Vostok (pictured) has revamped its main menu with the addition of new dishes such as a prawn cocktail with avocado and thousand island sauce (1,100 rubles), Vietnamese spring rolls with crab meat and mixed salad (950 rubles), and Thai salad with seafood and bamboo shoots (1,200 rubles).
Middle Eastern restaurant Damas has also updated its menu with new dishes such as beef kebabs with salted pickles (420 rubles), leg of lamb with a thyme, celery and garlic sauce served with wild rice (750 rubles) and T-bone steaks.
