Russia hit on Sunday the Northern bridge over the Dnipro river in Kyiv, targeting a route used to transport troops and military cargo, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The ministry also said it hit two dry cargo vessels carrying military equipment to the port of Odesa in the northwestern Black Sea.

In an earlier statement, the ministry said that Russian forces had struck a dry cargo vessel east of Odesa overnight, as well as a Nova Poshta logistics center in Chornomorsk and a data center in Odesa.

On Sunday, Russia promised to intensify strikes on Ukraine after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told Reuters that Kyiv would step up attacks on Russian oil refineries.

The ministry said air defense forces had intercepted and destroyed 559 Ukrainian drones between 8 p.m Moscow time (5 p.m. GMT) on Saturday and 8 a.m. Moscow time (5 a.m. GMT) on Sunday over multiple Russian regions and above the Azov and Black seas.

Reuters could not independently verify the claims made by either side of the conflict.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
