Writer and screenwriter Michael Idov made his directorial debut with “The Humorist” about an imaginery Soviet comedian trying to find a balance between what he wants to say and what the government allows him to joke about. Idov made a name for himself as a writer on several television series, as well as 2018 hit “Leto” (Summer) by embattled director Kirill Serebrennikov. “The Humorist” features popular rapper Face on the soundtrack, and the song “Humorist” amassed almost 50 million views on YouTube.
