Moscow Nanny Pleads Guilty to Beheading Child

Moskva News Agency

Uzbek nanny Gulchekhra Bobokulova pleaded guilty to the murder of a four-year old girl in her charge in a Moscow court on Monday, the Interfax news agency reported.

"I admit my guilt, that's what she said," her interpreter told journalists.

A comprehensive psychological examination carried out in the course of the investigation found that Bobokulova suffers from "a chronic mental disorder." It is expected that in accordance with her medical profile, the judge will order that she be committed to a mental hospital for treatment.

On Feb. 29 the body of a decapitated four-year-old girl was found in an apartment that had been set on fire. Later the 38-year-old nanny appeared on the street near Oktyabrskoye Pole metro station in northwestern Moscow waving the severed head of the girl and shouting "Allahu Akbar." After being arrested she was charged with the murder of a minor and destruction of property by arson.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
