Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport has suspended the head of its medical staff as investigators determine whether the facilities were underprepared for treating a 24-year-old newlywed man who died during a 1 1/2-hour wait for an ambulance.
Doctor Artur Bunin was suspended to "ensure an objective and unbiased investigation," the airport said in a statement Wednesday.
An airliner en route from Barcelona to Chelyabinsk made an emergency landing at the airport to treat the man, who was heading home with his wife after their honeymoon. He was experiencing heart problems during the flight and later died of cardiac arrest at the airport.
A deputy prime minster has ordered the Health and Transportation ministries to conduct inquiries into the death of Artyom Chechikov after witnesses said the airport's paramedics lacked proper equipment to treat him.
