Pensioner Kills Wife, Gets Tired While Disposing of Body, Jumps to Death

A 62-year-old pensioner who had killed his wife grew so weary and frustrated while trying to dispose of her body that he jumped from a sixth-floor window, Russian media reported Thursday.

Police who responded to the incident, earlier this week, discovered the body of the 62-year-old victim in the suspect's apartment on Stavropolskaya Ulitsa, as well as the suspect's body in front of the building, according to a statement by the Investigative Committee.

Investigators say the suspect, identified as Ivan Nikolayev, stabbed his wife in the chest in the middle of a heated argument and then attempted to decapitate her a day later in order to dispose of the body.

When that failed, the suspect phoned a relative to confess to his crime, and the relative immediately alerted police, the statement said.

The suspect is believed to have panicked and jumped out the window to avoid prosecution.

The cause of the argument was unclear. The Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper cited neighbors as saying the elderly couple's relationship was usually calm and harmonious.
