Former Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has turned to the European Court of Justice to challenge sanctions imposed against him by the EU, Interfax reported.
The court reportedly confirmed that it had received similar lawsuits from former Ukrainian politicians whom Brussels had accused of escalating tensions at home.
In March, the European Union ordered the assets of 18 Ukrainian citizens to be frozen, including Yanukovych and Azarov, who were suspected of mismanaging public funds and having violated human rights.
Yanukovych was ousted in February after months of street protests in response to his backtracking on the signature of an association agreement with the European Union. Yanukovych subsequently fled to the southern Russian city of Rostov-on-Don.
