A man who stabbed his aunt to death after she accused him of stealing less than $3 has been sentenced to 18 years in prison.
Andrei Bazhenov was drinking heavy spirits with his aunt and her housemate last December when his relative discovered she had lost 100 rubles, the Zabaikalsky Regional Court said Wednesday in an online statement.
The two flatmates then accused Bazhenov of stealing the money and began verbally assaulting him as he pleaded his innocence before leaving the property.
When Bazhenov returned to the flat later to make peace with his aunt, she again began hurling insults in his direction upon which he grabbed a knife and stabbed the woman 20 times, before delivering a similar number of blows to the — by now sleeping — flatmate, the statement said.
Bazhenov admitted full responsibility for his actions and asked for forgiveness from his relatives, according to the court statement.
