The Luna-10 was the first satellite to reach the moon's orbit.

Forty-eight years ago today, in 1966, the first-ever lunar satellite Luna-10 was launched by the U.S.S.R. After three days it reached lunar orbit, where it remained for 56 days before falling down to the moon's surface.
