Day Off for 'Men's Day' Carried Over to November

The Federal Labor and Employment Service said Monday that there will be no additional day off work in February to celebrate Defender of the Fatherland Day.

The holiday, commonly referred to as "men's day," is celebrated on Feb. 23, which falls on a Sunday this year. Instead of making a three day weekend, the day off will be carried over until Nov. 3, Ivan Shklovets, deputy head of the labor service, said.

The transferred holiday will tie in with National Unity Day on Nov. 4, giving Russians a four day weekend at the start of that month, RIA Novosti reported.

Those longing for a long weekend will get one at the start of March for International Women's Day, which is marked on March 8 — a Saturday this year. Monday, March 10 has been chosen as the day off.

Russians will also have time off on Thursday, May 1 and Friday, May 2 for Labor Day, as well as May 9 for Victory Day.

Most workers will also be free June 12-15 in honor of Russia Day.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.

By supporting The Moscow Times, you're defending open, independent journalism in the face of repression. Thank you for standing with us.
