The Winter Olympics will take place in Sochi from Feb. 7 to 23

Ninety years ago today, on Jan. 24, 1924, the first Winter Olympics kicked off in Chamonix, France, with more than 250 athletes from 16 countries competing in 16 events. This year, on Feb. 7, athletes from dozens of countries will descend on Sochi, Russia, to compete for about 250 medals in 98 events in 15 winter sports.
