Twelve years ago today, on Jan. 6, 2002, the Intourist hotel closed its doors to its last guest after being condemned to demolition for sticking out like a Gniloi Zub, or the Rotten Tooth, among the elegant old buildings on lower Tverskaya Ulitsa. Read the story in our archive:
