171 years ago today, on Dec. 9, 1842, Pyotr Kropotkin, who became a prominent anarchist-revolutionary, philosopher and zoologist, was born in Moscow. In the 45 years before the 1917 Revolution, Kropotkin spent a lot of time in France, Switzerland and England, as well as in jail for his involvement in revolutionary groups. He disapproved of the way the Bolsheviks seized power in 1917 and said that the revolution had been "buried."
