Engine trouble forced an IL-76 cargo plane to make an emergency landing at Yemelyanovo Airport near Krasnoyarsk, a news report said Friday.
Airport's spokesperson Tatyana Kaminskaya said that the plane landed successfully at 9:25 a.m. local time and that none of the nine people on board were injured, Interfax reported.
The plane was carrying 39 tons of cargo from Europe to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, about 6,500 kilometers east of Moscow.
Kaminskaya said that the Volga-Dnepr Airlines-owned plane was flying from Europe to Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk via Ulyanovsk and Krasnoyarsk. It made a stop in Krasnoyarsk to refuel, but when it took off again the crew discovered an engine malfunction and decided to return to the airport.
According to the West Siberian transportation investigations department, the crew felt strong vibrations coming from the fourth engine having flown 500 kilometers from Krasnoyarsk.
"The flight commander decided to turn off the faulty engine and return to the airport from which the flight had originated. No one was injured as a result of the incident," the investigators said in a statement.
