Police in the far eastern Primorye region have opened a criminal case into the suicide of a 13-year-old girl in the Oktyabrsky district, the Investigative Committee's regional office reported Thursday.
Around 6 p.m. on Wednesday, local police received a call from a 64-year-old retired resident of the Sinelnikovo-2 village saying she'd found her granddaughter hanged in a shed.
A preliminary investigation established that the woman, the girl's legal guardian, had a quarrel with her after accusing the girl of stealing her money, police said.
Avrora Rimskaya, senior aide to the head of the Investigative Committee's local office, said police are investigating the circumstances of the case to determine whether the girl was pushed to suicide.
She was heard talking about suicide shortly before her death, Rimskaya said.
The charge of incitement to suicide carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison.
