Russian Railways Suspends Ticket Sales to Ukraine Due to Time Confusion

Russian Railways temporarily suspended ticket sales for travel to Ukraine effective March 30, the company said in a statement posted on its website Thursday.

The decision was made at the request of the Ukrainian railroad authorities.

"Due to the absence of a final decision on adopting summer time in Ukraine in March 2013, Russian Railways is forced to suspend ticket sales for intercity passenger trains on routes to Ukraine, including tickets for seats in trailer and express cars, with departure dates from March 30, 2013, on," the company said.

The suspension of ticket sales was prompted by the need to adjust train schedules in both countries to accommodate Ukraine's possible switch to summer time in 2013, the statement said.

A Message from The Moscow Times:

Dear readers,

We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."

These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.

We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.

Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
