In three years, Leninsky Prospekt, Kutuzovksy Prospekt and the new northwest corridor will be free of traffic lights. The city architectural committee published draft designs for those roads that call for construction of 20 tunnels and overpasses to facilitate nonstop movement, Vedomosti reported Monday.
The northwest corridor is a new road linking the center of the city with the Skolkovo facility outside the Moscow Ring Road. It is being built on the basis of existing streets, which will be expanded.
This route will run 29 kilometers and will include intersections at Skolkovskoye Shosse and Vitebsky Ulitsa, several tunnels on Rublyovskoye Shosse, tunnels on Molodogvardeiskaya Ulitsa and Elninskaya Ulitsa, a tunnel between Bozhenko, Tolbukhina and the Smolensky line of the railroad, a second Krylatsky bridge, a tunnel on Ulitsa Berzarina and a tunnel on Bolshaya Akademicheskaya Ulitsa.
The current cost of the northwest corridor project is not clear, but earlier estimates put the value of the project at 29 billion rubles ($963 million).
