The map of the Moscow metro will get a facelift, with the new version to be posted in trains and station lobbies by the end of this month, City Hall said Friday.
Muscovites selected the submission for the new metro map design by Artemy Lebedev's design firm during a week-long online vote that ended Thursday, according to a statement from City Hall's department for transportation and road infrastructure.
The new layout will replace a version introduced in September 2012 and will display new details, like the nearest commuter train platforms and airports. The new map will also indicate the routes of Aeroexpress trains to the three city airports.
The upgraded map will have a new graphic design for portraying transfer stations, with the big hub of Biblioteka Imeni Lenina, Borovitskaya, Arbatskaya and Alexandrovsky Sad getting a clearer visualization.
Unlike the previous version, the new map makes it clear that there is no direct connection between Borovitskaya and Alexandrovsky Sad, according to a description of the map on the design firm's website.
"The improved map shows places of interest, including the Kremlin, the Bolshoi Theater, the cabinet building and city parks."
The map won 52 percent of votes, while two other candidates — projects by designer Ilya Birman and RIA-Novosti design center — won 27 percent and 21 percent of votes, respectively, according to City Hall's department for transportation and road infrastructure.
