SUV Tariffs to Fall Sharply

The government plans to cut import tariffs for sport utility vehicles to as low as 10 percent, Vedomosti reported Monday.

In August, the tariff for most new cars, including SUVs, will fall from 30 percent to 25 percent due to the country's accession to the World Trade Organization.

The tariff for new cars with engine capacity of over 2.8 liters and SUVs with engine capacity of 3.5 liters to 4.2 liters will be reduced to 12.5 percent in 2019, while the tariff for SUVs with greater engine capacity will drop to 22.5 percent in 2013 and 10 percent in 2019. For most other new cars, however, the tariff will be cut to 15 percent in 2019.
