A homemade bomb exploded early Sunday morning in a five-story residential building in southeast Moscow, shattering glass and injuring two, Moscow police said in a statement on their site.
The explosion occurred at about 4:30 a.m. after the explosive device was left on the windowsill of the first floor at 24 Ulitsa Sudakova.
Two people were injured in the blast, both citizens of Tajikistan. They were hospitalized with injuries from flying glass in the explosion.
The power of the blast, which broke about 20 windows and cut power to the building, was estimated to be equivalent to about 100 to 150 grams of TNT, Lenta.ru reported.
There are currently no suspects or motives established in the case. Police have opened a criminal investigation for deliberate infliction of bodily harm, damaging property and illegal arms production.
A Message from The Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We are facing unprecedented challenges. Russia's Prosecutor General's Office has designated The Moscow Times as an "undesirable" organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our earlier unjust labeling as a "foreign agent."
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim our work "discredits the decisions of the Russian leadership." We see things differently: we strive to provide accurate, unbiased reporting on Russia.
We, the journalists of The Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
Your support, no matter how small, makes a world of difference. If you can, please support us monthly starting from just $2. It's quick to set up, and every contribution makes a significant impact.
