Turks Affirm Nuclear Plan

Turkey is confident that the Rosatom is capable of ensuring the security of Akkuyu, the first Turkish nuclear power plant, Turkish Ambassador to Moscow Aydin Sezgin said.

"We know that Rosatom, which will be building our first nuclear power plant in Akkuyu, is experienced in the provision of nuclear power plants' security," the ambassador said. "Turkey wishes the soonest beginning of the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant in the Mersin province. This project will present the best example of Turkish-Russian partnership."

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said earlier that "We will be able to lay down the plant's foundation by late April, early May."
