Moscow police on Wednesday denied detaining about 30 migrant workers during an unsanctioned rally against crackdowns on foreigners, Interfax reported.
The protesters decried a new tactic by the Federal Migration Service, which started targeting “loitering foreigners” in city streets during the New Year’s holidays, detaining more than 200, a law enforcement official told Interfax. The tactic was criticized by Amnesty International.
Several dozen protesters, mostly Kyrgyz natives, were detained during the rally in the southwestern Cheryomushki district, the official said.
But police spokesman Viktor Biryukov denied Wednesday that any arrests took place.
