A former senior Georgian police official was shot dead near Hotel Ukraina in western Moscow early Friday, news reports said.
Elgudzha Dzhincharadze, who was nicknamed “Rambo” for his tough approach to law enforcement, was shot by two unidentified men, apparently Caucasus natives, after a friendly conversation deteriorated into a heated argument, witnesses told Lifenews.ru.
Police are looking for the suspects, who fled in a taxi.
Dzhincharadze, who lived in the Moscow region in recent years, was a former deputy interior minister of the breakaway Georgian region of Adzharia who helped return the region to Tbilisi’s rule in 2004.
Georgia, however, had placed him on its wanted list on unspecified charges, Interfax reported.
