A police officer filmed beating and insulting peaceful protesters at a banned rally in St. Petersburg in July has been identified as Vadim Boiko, a divorced father who pays alimony for two children, Ekho Moskvy radio reported Wednesday.
Dmitry Semyonov, who was beaten by the officer, told the station that he identified the man during a police lineup. The officer, whose actions sparked an Internet campaign to identify and prosecute him, faces up to 10 years in prison if charged and convicted of exceeding his authority, the Investigative Committee said last week.
