Lifenews Sues YouTube

News Media-Rus, the company that owns the popular tabloid Lifenews.ru, is suing YouTube for $1 million over a video clip from the birthday of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, RIA-Novosti reported Friday.

The video, which depicts a dancing Yanukovych and his guests, was shot by a Lifenews.ru reporter and later uploaded onto Google-owned YouTube.com, where it was embedded with advertisements.

News Media-Rus CEO Ashot Gabrelyanov said he was not opposed to YouTube hosting the video as long as it paid royalties. Google representatives had not commented on the lawsuit by Sunday.

News Media-Rus earlier filed similar lawsuits against the Vkontakte.ru social networking site and a company that produces television shows for the Moscow City Hall-owned TV Center channel.
