Kim Jong Il Buys Horses

Representatives of North Korean leader Kim Jong Il have purchased nine elite Orlov Trotter horses from an Altai breeding ranch, Itar-Tass reported Friday.

Five stallions and four mares, all 3 to 4 years old, will travel from the Altai region to North Korea by way of Moscow, the ranch’s head, Yevgeny Kukovitsky, said, without specifying the cost of the horses.

The animals will be used during North Korean state ceremonies by a special mounted squadron similar to the one in Russia’s presidential regiment, Kukovitsky said.
