Russia’s population, estimated at 142 million people this year, will plummet by a 10th to 126.7 million by 2050, according to a new forecast by the U.S. Population Reference Bureau.
But the sharp decrease will be staved off initially by migration, with the numbers slumping only to 140.8 million by 2025, the report said.
The trend will be in reverse to the global one. The world’s population is expected to grow from the current 6.8 billion people to 8.1 billion in 2025 and 9.4 billion in 2050, the report said.
