Typhoon Faye, the first to hit the Korean Peninsula this year, battered the south coast late Sunday with winds of up to 154 kilometers per hour.
It dumped heavy rains as it traveled rapidly across central and eastern regions of the country but lost strength and was downgraded to a tropical storm Monday. Property damage was tentatively estimated at $35 million.
