It will be the country's third election since the Communists -- led by party chief and president, Todor Zhivkov -- were ousted in 1989.
The government headed by nonpartisan economist Lyuben Berov resigned last month, saying parliament was so mired in political infighting that early elections were the only possible solution.
Bulgaria's political turmoil, largely rooted in the erosion of both major parties that prevents a clear majority in parliament, has severely hindered efforts to enact economic reforms.
