"The agreement will facilitate trade between the two countries," said Yossi Snir, the ministry's director general. The agreement was concluded during Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin's visit to Moscow earlier this year.
Israel's exports to Russia in 1993 totaled $115 million, 60 percent of which was foodstuffs. Israeli imports from Russia totaled $57 million.
Two-way trade so far this year has more than doubled. In the first seven months Israeli exports to Russia totaled just under $100 million, more than double a year ago. Imports totalled $43 million, up from $24.7 million a year earlier.
