SAN DIEGO () -- Two America's Cup yachts practicing prestart maneuvers collided, punching a hole in one of them.
The French yacht Ville de Paris broadsided PACT 95's Spirit of Unum on Monday, opening a 1.2-meter by 76-centimeter hole in the port forward quarter of the U.S. yacht. The Spirit of Unum will be replaced this week by PACT 95's new yacht, Young America.
The America's Cup trials begin in mid-January. The finals begin May 6.
