Tajik Talks Sought

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan () -- Russian diplomats hope to broker a peaceful end to the continuing fighting along the Tajik-Afghan border between Islamic rebels and Tajikistan's government forces, an official said Thursday.

"All the outstanding problems can be resolved by peaceful means, and our task is to help resume the intra-Tajik dialogue," said Albert Chernyshov, a deputy Russian foreign minister who plans talks with Tajik political leaders.

"Each of the conflicting sides is free to advance any terms, but they must be constructive and mutually acceptable," Chernyshov told Itar-Tass.
