Shevardnadze Gets Wired

TBILISI, Georgia -- U.S. President Bill Clinton has one. So does the world's richest man, Microsoft chairman Bill Gates. Now Georgian leader Eduard Shevardnadze will also have an Internet address.


The former Soviet Union is famous for its bad phones and Georgia is cursed with some of the worst. But the silver-haired former Soviet foreign minister will be able to surf the Internet thanks to a special linefor Georgian parliament, which Shevardnadze leads, installed by the U.S. Agency for International Development on Tuesday


The Georgian leader was thrilled.
