Schumacher Confirmed

PARIS () -- German Michael Schumacher was confirmed as world Formula One champion Wednesday by the International Automobile Federation, following an inquiry into his crash with Britain's Damon Hill at the Australian Grand Prix on Nov. 13, Reuters reported.


In Wales, Didier Auriol of France clinched the 1994 world rally title Wednesday when Spain's Carlos Sainz crashed out on the final day of the RAC Rally, The Associated Press reported.


Sainz was in a commanding position to win the championship when he crashed his Subaru on the second of Wednesday's stages.
