Sainz Seizes Acropolis

ATHENS -- Spaniard Carlos Sainz seized victory in the Acropolis Rally and vaulted into the lead of the World Rally Championship. Sainz's win Tuesday in the fifth round of the 1994 series was his first major success since the 1992 RAC Rally and his first for his new team, Subaru. Toyota continues to lead the manufacturers' championship thanks to Finn Juha Kankkunen's third place, but it is coming under pressure from Subaru and its lead has fallen to 13 points. German Armin Schwarz took second place after a finely judged drive in his Mitsubishi, his best result for a year.
