Russia to Hold Coal

MOSCOW -- Russia plans to hold coal exports to countries outside the former Soviet Union at an annual 15 million tons over the next few years, a top energy official said. Interfax on Monday quoted Alexander Yevtushenko, the deputy minister of fuel and energy, as saying that the country will find it hard to maintain exports because of mounting rail freight charges,which now account for up to 70 percent of coal export prices.
